In just a few days, Masorti/Conservative delegates from our movement’s MERCAZ slate will join hundreds of others from around the world in Jerusalem for the World Zionist Congress. Our delegates come to Jerusalem not only as representatives of 2 million Masorti/Conservative Jews around the world, but as partners in the sacred task of helping shape an Israel that reflects our values.
After two years living in the shadow of October 7th, we were all overjoyed with the recent release of all of our living hostages from Gaza. And while there is still so much more to be done – first and foremost, for all of our hostages to come home – it feels that after two years of waking up every single day and feeling we are still living on October 7th, October 8th – the day after – is finally coming. The day when Israel can truly begin to recover and rebuild.
The World Zionist Congress is more than a political meeting—it is a place where our values of Zionism, Tikkun Olam, and mutual responsibility meet the practical work of shaping Israel and sustaining the Jewish people. Here, Jews from Israel and the Diaspora come together to decide how we steward our shared institutions and chart a path for the next generation.
As President of MERCAZ Olami, I am proud that our movement will play a powerful role in the proceedings given our recent success in elections for the Congress. Masorti/Conservative Jews have always stood at the forefront of Jewish life—educating our youth, nurturing our communities, advocating for Israel, and modeling a Judaism that is inclusive, pluralistic, and guided by moral courage.
Over this new five year term, we will use this platform to make a tangible difference: ensuring that communities in every corner of Israel have the support they need to rebuild. That our camps and youth movements—Ramah, NOAM, and USY—can continue to educate, inspire, and strengthen the next generation. That religious pluralism and equality in Israel are not just ideals, but lived realities. True unity requires that every Jew have an equal seat at the table—and that equality is essential for Israel’s strength, democracy, and future. We act not only as representatives, but as a community guided by values that sustain Jewish life: justice, compassion, and the belief that every voice matters.
To all who voted for MERCAZ, and to Masorti/Conservative Jews everywhere: your voices will be heard. Together, we will build a Jewish future that is vibrant, inclusive, Zionist and democratic—a future in which Israel is a home for every Jew, and our people can thrive in strength and mutual respect.
May our work in Jerusalem strengthen our communities, support our youth, and reinforce the connections that unite Jews across the world. May we leave focused, ready, and committed to carrying forward the values that guide us, building a future that reflects the best of our communities and our shared responsibility.
